Special Stories
Today we have looked at a Special Story from Sikhism - The Milk and the Jasmine Flower. We noticed that the story reminded us of Jesus in some parts, and that both Sikhism and Christianity want us to spread kindness.
We made our own flowers to put into ‘milk’, and watched in awe and wonder as…
Loaves and Fish!
After reading about how kind and helpful Jesus was, when he fed a large crowd with bread and fish, we made our own bread. We also made picnic baskets, so we could be like the people who sat and listened to Jesus as he taught.
The Starry Night
This week, to tie in with our space theme, we have been making our own 'Stary Night' inspired artwork!
We carefully picked the right colours and tried to copy Van Gogh's swirling and circular brush strokes.
Salty, science-y snowflakes
Today we started an experiment that will take all week to finish.
We cut out paper snowflakes and have covered them in extremely salty water.
We hope to observe salt crystals forming on our snowflakes as the water evaporates, or dries.
Winter science!
Given the frosty weather outside, I thought I would ask the children what they thought the small rocks were that appear on the playground when it's cold.
Some children already knew that it is salt! We talked about why we put salt down when it's icy, and followed it up with an experiment to…
Christmas Dinner and Santa!
We want to send a huge thank you to Alex and Kay for cooking us the most delicious Christmas Dinner today! We sat with children from different classes and shared Christmas Crackers with them, before tucking into our food.
When we'd eaten our fill, we sang the 12 Days of Christmas, then rang…
Mini scientists
We've done lots of science this term - we have placed pumpkins (both whole and halved) inside and outside and hypothesised which would rot first, we have made nests for hibernating hot water bottles and measured which ones stayed warmer for longer, and most recently, we have gotten the colour out…
Bread!
After looking at wheat and all the wonderful things it can produce, we have made our own loaf from flour!
We each had a turn at pouring the water, mixing the batter into a dough, and then kneading it. Afterwards, we tasted it! I was very pleased that everybody tried some.
Muddy Maths!
We have been investigating capacity this week. The children were provided with a range of different sized containers, and different sized scoops. We discussed capacity, and which containers we predicted would hold the most soil. We then discussed which would be the most suitable scoops for filling…
VIPs!
We’ve been talking about VIPs, and how God is a VIP to Christians. So of course, we had to have our own VIPs in class, and we treated them to a walk down the red carpet. Some of us then asked our VIPs for a selfie!
Poetry Friday!
The children had an amazing time this morning with a visit from Pep the Poet! He got us all up and moving, and had us all in giggles. Thank you Pep!
