Today one of our children brought in a scrapbook that he had created over the weekend following a trip to London. He and his family visited all of the landmarks that we have learnt about in our story ‘Katie in London’. It was so lovely to see our learning being brought to life!

In maths today we have been partitioning teen numbers into tens and ones. We used the the part whole model and the base 10 to support our understanding. 
 

In art today we have been exploring drawing techniques by discussing and experimenting with different patterns and marks. 
 

In English today we looked at the main plot points in our story Katie in London and acted out the parts in groups. Tomorrow we are going to use our role play ideas and the language we used to help us write the whole story. 

In maths Year 1 have been learning all about the teen numbers and today in pairs we represented the numbers 17, 18 and 19 on the tens frames and worked out how many tens and ones each number had. 
 

In geography we have been learning all about the United Kindom and in English we have been basing our writing on the story ‘Katie in London, by James Mayhew. Today we combined our prior knowledge from both subjects and created some fantastic posters about London. 

Today in maths Year 1 have been sorting 2D shapes according to their properties. The children worked as a team to sort the shapes into triangles, squares, rectangles and circles. 

In maths Year 1 have been learning all about shape. Today we made 2D shapes using lollipop sticks and play dough. We talked about the properties of the shapes we had made.

In D and T we are learning all about pizzas. We have looked at pizza toppings and today we learnt about the pizza base. We tasted and evaluated a range of different breads and discussed what might be best to use as a pizza base and why.

In English Class 2 have been basing their writing on the book ‘How to catch Santa’ by Jean Regan. Today we came up with ideas of how we could catch Santa on Christmas Eve and then we designed and labelled our traps.

Class 2 had a fantastic time at the Black Country Museum today. We went into lots of Victorian houses and a Victorian shop. We also went into the school and the 1960's mother and baby unit. 

In history today we looked at houses and homes comparing the similarities and differences between Victorian homes and our homes today. The children sorted pictures into past and present and then they matched the rooms by observing which features were similar.
