This week we have started our new topic in history all about the Stone Age. We started off our topic by looking at the World Heritage Site, Stonehenge, and made our own silhouette paintings of the Stone Age monument.

We have been creative and enjoyed using a variety of recycled materials to create our own litterbug! 

We have been learning around the story Michael Recycle! We have been thinking about caring for our World and everything in it! There has been lots of super discussion about caring for our World. 

In English Class 2 are basing their writing on the book ‘The Great Dragon Rescue’ by M P Robertson. Today they have been writing descriptions of the witch in the story. Year 1 have been using simple adjectives and Year 2 have been adding expanded noun phrases. It is lovely to see our Year 1…

This week in English we have been writing non chronological reports about penguins. Today Year 2 worked in pairs to peer assess each other’s work. They then chose a section of their work to edit and improve, adding sentence openers and generalisers to make their writing even better! 

In art this half term we have been looking at painting. We have experimented with different brush strokes, we have mixed primary colours to make secondary colours, we have added white to make tints and black to make shades. We have also looked at the art work of William Turner. Today we combined…

This week we have completed our final pieces in art. We chose a landscape to sketch and used different pencils and techniques to create the effects of light and shadow.

Reception have been ordering numbers from 0-10. We even tried ordering all the way up to 20. We have enjoyed playing what is the missing number and proving which number is missing and why. We have matched amounts to the numerals and made our own representations of amounts up to 10.

This week in geography, we created questionnaires to find out which amenities the residents of Colton village would like to see. We then used our results to create sketch maps of Colton village with new anemities.

We have been enjoying taking part in lots of dinosaur themed play in class one! We have been digging for dinosaur bones, creating dinosaur lands, drawing dinosaurs and creating dinosaur art work!

We have been learning more about the properties or 3D shapes. We created our own models using packaging. We thought about the shape of the packaging that we would need for our construction. We started to describe the properties of the shapes.
