3 February 2020
The week commencing Monday 3rd February we are going to be learning more about the story of Hansel and Gretel! We will read the traditional tale and also an alternative version of the story. We will sequence the story, read and match sentences to the pictures in sequence and retell the story. We will write character descriptions and speech bubbles for the characters in the story. We will build junk model gingerbread houses and develop many design and technology skills as we do this. We will count, share, double and halve sweets and develop our maths skills through using real resources, pictures and numbers! We will also bake gingerbread and look at the changes to the ingredients as we bake! The children can explore using money to pay for sweets from the sweet shop role play area and construct traps to capture the Witch!
There will be lots of other Hansel and Gretel themed activities for the children to access independently as well as all of our other areas of continuous provision. The children are fantastic at showing love, respect and friendship towards others as they learn through their play.
In phonics the Reception children are learning the phase 3 phonic sounds. They will learn the sounds ai,ee and igh this week. They will continue to learn how to read tricky words and sentences.
