14 March 2020
The week commencing Monday 16th March we will be learning more about Easter and the big question why do Christians put a cross in an Easter garden? The reception children have already shown a super understanding around some of the events that happen at Easter time, by reflecting on their personal experiences from home and school. We can't wait to learn more!
Next week we will read the Easter story and discuss it together. We will talk about the key messages and feelings throughout the events. We will talk about what the story means for us, how we behave and treat others and also what is means for Christians around the World. We will sequence the story, sort and discuss the happy and sad parts, and also write about what the cross symbolises and means for us. We will also be showing our understanding and thinking through many creative and outdoor activities!
The children were fascinated, enthusiastic and showed amazing awe and wonder when we learnt about what happened to the baby in the manger throughout the first part of the spring term. They truly flew like eagles with their understanding and ability to share their thoughts. We cannot wait to hear the children's thoughts and understanding when we learn more about Easter.
There will be lots of other Easter and Mother's day themed activities for the children to access independently as well as all of our other areas of continuous provision. We will also follow the children's interest throughout the week and implement their favourite play activities. The children are fantastic at showing love, respect and friendship towards others as they learn through their play. They continue to believe in themselves and each other, and achieve so much everyday!
In phonics the Reception children are learning the phase 3 phonic sounds. This week we will learn the sounds ear, air and ure. They will continue to learn how to read tricky words and sentences.
Nursery will continue to develop their reading skills through song, rhyme and lots of phase 1 phonics activities and games. They are now starting to build their awareness of initial sounds which is fantastic! They have learnt more about the sounds s,a, t, p, i and n. This week we will develop our blending skills and continue to develop our awareness of initial sounds through lots of fun activities.
