Hello Class One,

What spring activities have you had a go at so far?

Yesterday I spent the day at school with Edie from Class One, Ollie from Class 3 and some other children from different schools. We had a lovely day. We did some Literacy, Maths, Topic, played outside, watered the plants and painted giant Easter eggs!

Here is your home learning for today.

Literacy- Let’s do some phonics today!

Nursery-

We will learn a little more about the s sound today and learn more about some other sounds.

What can you spot in the song that starts with the s sound? Can you hear the alliteration? For example Silly Sally. Alliteration means there are words together that start with the same sound. Can you think of some more words beginning with s to describe the snail, snake or seal? Here’s mine; Slimy, silly, sloppy snail.

Next can you practice writing s on lots of small pieces of paper with your family. When you have done this your parent can hide them around the house for you. Can you go on a s hunt? Can you find the hidden s sounds around your house?

Now let’s play phoneme pop. Select Set 1: s,a,t,p. Pop the bubbles that have the given sound attached to them. You can adjust the speed of the bubbles using the green slider.  How many points can you score? Can you gain 5 stars?  https://www.ictgames.com/phonicsPop/index.html

 

Reception-

Let’s learn some more about the er sound today. This is the last phase 3 sound we are going to learn about! Yay! The er sound is a digraph which means it is made up of 2 letters but it makes 1 sound.

Now can you sign into phonicsplay.co.uk. This is free to access at the moment. The user name is march20 and the password is home. Play picnic on pluto. Select phase 3 and then the er sound. Next let’s play yes/no yeti! Practice reading questions with all of the sounds we have learnt in so far. Use your phonics skills to sound out and blend. Maths-

Today let’s learn some more about size and develop our vocabulary of size.  Try and do this outside in your garden and use the plants and natural resources where you can. You could go out into the garden, use plants or objects in your home, look at plants on a short spring walk, or draw some flowers and trees to use if you are unable to leave your home.

 

Nursery-

Can you describe the size of some natural things that you find/objects/things you have drawn? The daffodil is…. (long/tall/short) The tree is …(tall/short) The bush is….(wide/thin) The flower is…(tiny/small/mini) The hedge is….(huge/massive/giant.) Use the vocabulary mats below for some more ideas for vocabulary.

Choose one flower. Can you hunt for and find something taller? Shorter? Longer? Wider?

Can you draw 2 spring things with different sizes? A long flower and a short twig? A tall tree and a short flower?

If your child is confident now try collecting 3 different things. Can you order them together by size from the smallest to largest? Shortest to tallest?

Work together and model lots of different vocabulary that could be used.

Reception-

Now can you compare the size of the objects using vocabulary such as smallest/ larger/largest,   long, longer, longest/ or short/shorter/shortest. Use these sentence stems to help. This one is…. And this one is…. But this one is…..

Now order the 3 objects by size from smallest to largest or shortest to longest. Go and collect another object. Where does this object go in the size order?

Following this can you collect some wooden blocks, lego pieces, pencils or something similar. Now see how many blocks/pencils it takes to measure the object for example; the daffodil might measure the same as 10 blocks.

If you have a ruler or tape measure you could try measuring some of the objects using this too.

 

Your topic challenges for the week are all around the theme of Spring!

We are going on a spring walk.

Watch the video on class dojo that I have posted of a spring walk around the garden. Now can you go into your garden, have a look out the window or go out on a short walk and see what signs of spring you can find. Take the spring hunt check list with you and tick off the things that you find. Can you help take some photos of the things you find and send them over to me?
